Winter time pampering – chocolate masks for your hair and face
Chocolate is more than just a delicious treat; the antioxidant and anti-aging virtues of cocoa make chocolate a valuable ingredient in your beauty routine. Here are a few chocolate masks you can prepare yourself for glowing skin and beautiful, shiny hair.
Cocoa and honey for dark hair
The caffeine and theobromine in pure cocoa stimulate blood flow, which in turn encourages healthy hair growth, while honey has soothing and moisturizing properties, alleviating irritation and dandruff. Applying the mask regularly will intensify the brown hues in your hair and give it a lovely “chocolaty” shine.
Ingredients (for long hair):
– 2 spoons honey
– 2 spoons rich sour cream
– 2 spoons 100% pure cocoa
– 2 spoons olive oil (less for greasy hair, more for dry hair)
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you get a creamy texture. Apply it on damp hair, insisting around the roots and scalp. Wrap your head in saran wrap and leave the mask on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and shampoo.
Dark chocolate and coconut oil for glowing complexion
Coconut oil is a highly nourishing oil, and its lipid profile is ideal for skin care in the cold season. Geranium oil has toning and brightening properties, and in synergy with chocolate it gives the skin a lovely glow.
– 50 g dark chocolate (at least 85% cocoa)
– 1 g unrefined coconut oil
– 2 drops geranium essential oil
– 1 tablespoon rose water (optional)
Put the chocolate and coconut oil in a stainless steel bowl and warm them up in bain-marie until the coconut oil melts. Let it cool to skin temperature and add the geranium oil. It’s important that you let the mixture cool sufficiently, because the essential oil will lose its properties at high temperatures.
Spread the mask in a thin even layer on your face, avoiding the eyes and lips, leave it on for 15-20 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water. After you’re done, dab your face with a cotton ball soaked in rose water, which has calming and astringent properties.
Cocoa and jojoba oil for oily skin
Jojoba oil is great for oily skin because of its light texture and unique affinity with the skin. The antibacterial properties of tea tree oil prevent and alleviate acne break-outs, while yoghurt has soothing and calming effects on the skin.
– 2 tablespoons 100% pure cocoa
– 1 spoon yoghurt
– 1 tablespoons jojoba oil
– 2 drops tea tree oil
Mix all the ingredients and apply the mask in a thick layer on your face avoiding the eyes and mouth. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.
