Take care of your skin – Nourishing and moisturizing body masks for the cold season
Wintertime has its charm – the snow, the cozy evenings spent in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa – but it also has its downsides. Your skin doesn’t fend well against the cold, and it can become sensitive, dry and chapped. Take care of it with these homemade body masks, which will help keep your skin soft and hydrated.
1. Milk and honey
Mix a cup of maize flour with one of milk and three tablespoons of honey. Apply the mask weekly with delicate moves on your chest, legs and arms. After 20 minutes rinse with lukewarm water. You can store the leftovers in the fridge for about a week.
2. Maize flour and kiwi
Mash up two kiwis and add a cup of milk and one of maize flour. Mix well and apply the mask twice a week after you get out of the shower. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. Only use it fresh.
3. Carrot and yogurt
Wash and peel a medium-sized carrot and mash it in the blender until you get a soft paste. Add ¼ cup of yogurt and six tablespoons of honey. Mix well and spread it onto your body. Let your skin absorb it for about 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. This mask is to be applied once a week.
Melt 250 grams of dark chocolate and add six teaspoons of olive oil. After the mix has cooled down to room temperature, apply it on clean skin and leave it on for 15 minutes, after that you clean it with lukewarm water.
You can use this mask up to 3 times a week. You can store any of the remaining mixture in the fridge and reheat it when you need it.
5. Honey and banana
You will need two ripe bananas and mash them into a paste. Add two teaspoons of honey in the composition and apply the mask once a week on clean skin. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
6. Clay powder
Dissolve a teaspoon of honey in half a cup of sparkling water, add a tablespoon of olive oil and five tablespoons of clay powder. Mix well until you get a creamy consistency and then add a teaspoon of orange essential oil and juice from a lemon.
Spread the mask on certain areas of your body, such as your thighs or abdomen, and wrap them in saran wrap, for about an hour. Take a warm shower to remove the mask.
Aside from its moisturizing effects, this mask is also effective in reducing the appearance of cellulite. You can use it once every two weeks, fresh after you’ve prepared it.
7. Powdered sugar
Combine three spoons of powdered sugar and a cup of olive oil. Mix well and apply on the whole body, using circular movements to stimulate blood flow and remove dead skin cells. After 10 minutes rinse with warm water. The mask can be used once every three days and it can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
